He established one of Asia’s first consultancies dedicated to “greening” in 2002. As interest grew, his team advised developers and project teams across Asia including landmark developments such as the Asian Development Bank Retrofit in Manila, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Singapore, the Islamabad Airport in Pakistan and the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. He has also lectured and conducted workshops on green design processes in Australia, Asia and Europe.
He has been a member of several advisory panels in China, Singapore and Vietnam shaping policy guidelines that affect design practice. Collaborating with FuturArc and BCI Asia, he has created new platforms for reporting green projects and sustainability in Asia. His book, Greening Asia: Emerging Principles for Sustainable Architecture (ORO Editions, 2012) was the first to critique the green building movement in the region and Ecopuncture: Transforming Architecture and Urbanism in Asia (BCI Asia, 2019) advocates the repair and regeneration of human-made and natural systems.
Ecogradia Series 4
Sustainability is a journey. Ecogradia is back with a new series of ten episodes to find out from world-leading players how to forge ahead, keep faith, beat the odds, and put ideas to work, right from the drawing board.
We traverse the globe, weaving a tapestry of stories and solutions through conversations that delve into the journey and motivations of practitioners who have become sustainability champions. We want to know how they got “here”.
Ecogradia Season 3
The climate crisis is here. Extreme weather is perturbing all lives rapidly across the world. How should buildings and cities respond? Should action be rooted in science or vernacular know-how? Or maybe both?
One word sums up the interviews: diversity. We spoke with practitioners from regions as far-flung as Africa, Mexico and India. We also asked thought leaders about their takes on questions feeding the global conversation: How does carbon shape design? What products should we buy? How do boardrooms affect thinking at the drawing board?
