Innovating Tomorrow’s Resilience
Empowering students to bridge education and the practice of sustainable construction — London, United Kingdom
This two-week in-person intensive course fostered a curiosity- and solutions-driven mindset through a series of actions — open dialogue, consultation, exploration, and reflection — and to create a dynamic feedback loop that leads to transferable and scalable outcomes.
Aftermovie | Innovating Tomorrow’s Resilience
Relive two weeks of learning in motion: studio work, site encounters across London, and public discussion at the Royal Academy of Engineering.
University College London (UCL) hosted the third cohort of the Holcim Foundation Fellowship in July/August 2025, open to candidates studying at a university in Europe. Students came to UCL’s Bloomsbury Campus to collaborate closely with lecturers, tutors and industry experts, observing, analyzing, and challenging ideas while developing interdisciplinary strategies to scale local innovations focusing on tomorrow’s resilience.
Fellows engaged with case study projects in London, connected with professionals to gain first-hand insights into the pioneering work and leadership shaping transformative, regionally inspired solutions. They produced final projects that were documented in a digital publication to serve as a reference for future students and professionals worldwide. Selected Fellows will be chosen to take part in the next step of the journey - the Holcim Foundation Emerging ChangeMakers.

Digital Publication
Investigating the promise of The London Plan

The digital publication captures the Fellowship’s two-week journey that explored London from above, below and within. It presents the cohort’s collaborative “What If?” manifesto that emerged from this process. It traces the three simple questions that framed the work: Does London need another plan? If so, what’s missing? If not, how can its delivery align with the city’s needs? Behind-the-scenes site visits, project discussions and frank conversations exposed the tension between needs, ambition and delivery.
