Ken Yeang was honored for his Ecologically-designed retail and commercial building in the master-planned administrative capital of Malaysia, Putrajaya, which was one of 15 finalists to compete for the Global Holcim Awards 2012. The 14-level commercial and retail building brings together state-of-the-art technologies appropriate for high-quality use in two interconnected towers that use vegetation to actively reduce energy consumption, provide solar shading, and create comfortable spaces considering all requirements of utilization.

Trends in construction, sustainability and productivity in the built environment were the key topics of the Large and Infrastructure Projects (LIP) Forum which was initiated and moderated by Paul Hugentobler, Member of the Executive Committee of Holcim Ltd, and strategically timed on the day between the World Cities Summit in Singapore and the inauguration of Holcim Singapore’s Centre of Excellence, a state-of-the-art research laboratory to develop efforts into sustainable construction. “The Centre of Excellence shows that Holcim can develop and deliver innovative solutions contributing to sustainable construction”, said Paul Hugentobler.

The LIP Forum aimed to interconnect participants from the entire value chain of the construction industry to exchange knowledge about each other’s capabilities, share common issues and to find ways of effectively working across different disciplines. “We were presented with public and private sector skills and technology confirming that Asia should and will build sustainably to meet the rapidly growing demands for infrastructure and other constructions projects,” said Paul Hugentobler.

All Holcim Group companies from the region were represented at the LIP Forum with booths showing innovative responses to sustainable construction demands, and an exhibition dedicated to the Centennial of Holcim and the 3rd cycle of the Holcim Awards competitions rounded off the event.
