Battula Kalyana (BK) Chakravarthy is Professor at the Industrial Design Centre (IDC) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) in Mumbai, India and was Co-chair of the 4th Holcim Forum 2013 on “Economy of Sustainable Construction” held in Mumbai, India.

BK Chakravarthy is also Founder and Head of the Shenoy Innovation Studio at the IIT Bombay, which works towards developing innovative products and services by leveraging new and futuristic technologies developed at the institute and other research and development organizations. He actively researches in the field of design strategy, humanizing technology, disruptive new product innovation, and collaborative innovation methodologies.

He studied mechanical engineering at the Osmania University, Hyderabad, before completing post-graduate studies at the IIT Bombay. He undertook active research in new product innovation and obtained a doctorate at the IIT Delhi whilst being one of the core faculty members of the design program.

BK Chakravarthy specializes in innovation by design which encompasses new product innovation process and methodology. His aim is to create design leaders for the Indian industry who can develop innovative products and “humanizing technology” through collaborative projects with leading national and international companies. One of his most notable products is the Z‐Line petrol pump designed for Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
