She presented a paper in the workshop “Local resources - Leveraging regional skills and metabolism” at the 4th Holcim Forum 2013 on “Economy of Sustainable Construction” in Mumbai.

Geeta Mehta has extensive experience of working on urban design projects in India, China, Japan, Vietnam, Ghana, Jamaica, Ukraine, Austria and Brazil. She is a graduate of the School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi and Columbia University. She received her Ph.D. in Urban Engineering from the University of Tokyo.

She serves on the advisory boards of Millennium Cities Initiative at the Earth Institute at Columbia University, is the co-founder of URBZ: User Generated Cities (empowering people at the community level to improve their own neighborhoods), and is also founding president of Asia Initiatives (supports pro-poor, pro-women, and pro-environment projects in South Asia).

She has served as the President of the American Institute of Architects Japan Chapter, is the founding member of Tokyo Planning Forum, and is a member of the Advisory Committee of Friends of Todai (FOTI).

Geeta Mehta is the author, co-author and editor of several books on architecture and urbanism, including City Connect: Issues of Equity and Sustainability in the 21st Century. Her current work includes developing the concept of trading and leveraging social capital credits to bring infrastructure and social services to underserved communities.
