His research focus is the development of visualization workbench of energy and water consumption data for higher education, smart cities, design and performance simulation of the building envelope, and carbon footprint emission tracking and energy reduction strategies. He conducts research on the thermal performance of building envelope materials for residential buildings in Egypt and the assessment of its ecological impact.
He is a LEED Accredited Professional and Green Building certification expert and design adviser. He consults to several professional firms in Egypt, and the Gulf region and provides professional training and support in the areas of LEED, GSAS & BREEAM Certification. At the AUC, he teaches “Sustainability in Architectural Design” core studio and Graduation Project studio.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) (1994) in Architectural Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt (1994), a Masters of City Planning (2000) and PhD in City & Regional Planning (2009) from the School of Design, University of Pennsylvania, USA with a specialization in the planning of energy efficient urban environments, high performance building design, certification and assessment.
He held previous teaching positions as Assistant Professor of Sustainable Design at the Arab Academy for Science & Technology (AAST) in Alexandria, Egypt; Drexel University in Philadelphia, USA; University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA; and Alexandria University, Egypt. He commenced his current position at AUC in 2012.
He has presented papers at the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA); Arab Society for Computer Aided Architecture Design (ASCAAD); International Building Performance Simulation Association; International Conference on Sustainable Buildings (SB13); and EcoCities World Summit.
