a-fact | architecture factory is a design practice co-founded in 2022 by Pierluigi Turco together with Andrea Rossi and Giovanni Sanna. The firm comprises architects, thinkers, engineers, and designers who collaborate with experts from various fields to deliver sustainable projects for forward-thinking clients. The firm’s philosophy is rooted in “factual sustainability,” that emphasizes data-driven design and systems thinking that considers multiple perspectives including economic, ecological and social drivers of sustainability.
In 2023, a-fact led a team that won an international competition to design a museum complex in Podgorica, Montenegro, currently in planning and development. The project includes a Museum of Contemporary Art, a Natural History Museum, and an Arts & Culture Park. The design features iconic architecture connecting culture and nature, that incorporates landscape design, enhances biodiversity by retaining existing trees and adding new species, and creates a dynamic public space that reconnects the city with the Morača River. a-fact also won first place to design the new Bertalia-Lazzaretto eco-district of social housing in Bologna, Italy, now under construction.
Pierluigi Turco was previously an Associate Designer at Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM) in London where he was engaged in large-scale projects at stages of construction and concept design as well as competitions. He was also involved in the HPD (High-Performance Design) group and in the Sustainability group of SOM.
He was a lead designer at PACE-architecture engineering and planning in Kuwait. He trained and mentored younger architects and led a studio for educational and cultural projects including PAHW 3 Schools, winning the proposal of a competition for the design of three prototypes of schools for the Kuwait government.
He studied architecture at Università degli Studi di Palermo (University of Palermo), Italy, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Vilnius Tech), Lithuania, the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (ENSAM - Arts et Métiers ParisTech), France, and obtained a MArch in Sustainable Design at the Architectural Association, London where he was recently appointed as a tutor. He contributes to the Sustainable Environmental Design (SED) program, which focuses on developing environmentally responsive architectural solutions, emphasizing sustainable design practices.
