Pietro Stagno is a Founding Member of the Instituto de Arquitectura Tropical based in San José, Costa Rica.
The Instituto de Arquitectura Tropical (Institute for Tropical Architecture) combines concepts of tropical architecture with those of international contemporary architecture.
He is also Professor of Architecture in charge of the Sustainable Design Studio at UVeritas (2011).
He worked as an architect for Teodoro Fernandez, Monserrat Palmer, Rodrigo Perez de Arce Arquitectos (1997-98), Bruno Stagno Arquitecto y Asociados (1999-2003), before founding Luz de Piedra (2000) and STAGNO Studio (2013).
Luz de Piedra’s project Casa Atrevida was awarded the Grand Prize in the Costa Rican Bienal de Arquitectura (2012), in a year when the event’s jury centered discussion on green architecture and sustainable construction.
Pietro Stagno was one of the principal collaborators in charge of creating RESET, Requisites for Sustainable Construction in the Tropics, the certification process that became the national standard in Costa Rica (2012).
He studied fine arts and architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design (1995), and completed a Masters of Architecture at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (1999).
Pietro Stagno was a member of the LafargeHolcim Awards jury for Latin America in 2017.
