An event to honor El Salvador’s entrants in the LafargeHolcim Awards competition and their projects in sustainable construction was hosted by Holcim El Salvador. The event featured an exhibition of the 63 submissions from the country, and was complemented with lectures on sustainable construction. In addition, the El Salvador Green Building Council presented selected projects that promote the transformation of the construction market across the “triple bottom line” to achieve better social balance, ecological preservation, and superior economic performance.
A total of 107 entries by Salvadoran authors were submitted in the 5th LafargeHolcim Awards. From these submissions, there were 63 projects that met the formal criteria of the competition, and were evaluated by the independent jury for Latin America based on the “target issues” for sustainable construction. Although they showed great potential, addressed challenges of increasing urbanization and aimed at improving the quality of life in El Salvador, none of the valid projects were selected to receive one of the eleven prizes at the Awards ceremony in San José, Costa Rica.
Holcim El Salvador Marketing Manager, Amalia Palacios, explained that the event was held to recognize the submissions in the competition from across the country. “We are very proud of the people who submitted their projects in the LafargeHolcim Awards, and impressed by their talent and enthusiasm. The quality and innovation of their proposals will contribute to sustainable construction in El Salvador. We urge them to continue keep developing great ideas – and to ensure the project authors and their peers enter the next cycle of the Awards competition,” she said.
The 6th LafargeHolcim Awards will open for submissions in mid-2019.
